Samson Mnisi

South African 1971-2022 

Samson Mnisi (the ‘Rainmaker’) was born in Lesotho and studied Fine Arts and Photography at the FUBA Academy of Arts in Johannesburg. He was an abstract expressionist who was searching for a contemporary South African expression. Mnisi’s art was also influenced by the indigenous rituals and healing processes he encountered as a child. He participated in both local and international group and solo exhibitions throughout his career. On 6 October 2022, Mnisi’s solo exhibition Man of the Hour opened at Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, Johannesburg and, sadly, the artist suddenly passed away the following day. He was honoured with an exhibition by Asisibenze Art Atelier at the Cape Town Art Fair in February 2023.
