Cheriese Dilrajh

South African 1997- 

Cheriese Dilrajh is an artist, writer, and socially-engaged researcher born in Durban, South Africa. Her work explores themes of migration, multiculturalism, and the interconnected histories of the African and Indian Ocean regions.

Cheriese studied Fine Art in Johannesburg and holds an MA in Art and Politics from Goldsmiths, London. She has participated in exhibitions across Africa, Europe, and the USA, including shows at Centre d’art Waza (Lubumbashi, Congo), Mahal Art Space (Marrakech, Morocco), SALTS (Basel, Switzerland), and the Guggenheim Museum (New York).

In 2024, Cheriese presented a solo project with Suburbia Contemporary at FNB Art Joburg in Johannesburg. Additionally, her dissertation, Navigating the African-Indian Sea as a Site of Reworlding in South Africa’s Post-1994 Era, was published by the Ameena Gafoor Center the same year.

Cheriese lives and works between Durban and London.
