Masimba Hwati

Zimbabwean 1982- 

Masimba Hwati is a Zimbabwean interdisciplinary artist from Mhondoro, known for his innovative approach to sculpture, sound, and installation art. He studied and taught sculpture at Harare Polytechnic Art School before achieving an MFA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the USA. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the Akademie der Bilden Künste in Vienna, Austria. Hwati often incorporates found objects and materials within his pieces, reflecting the complexity of modern life while honouring his cultural heritage. His works have been included in several international galleries and institutions, notably in the Zimbabwean Pavillion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015.
