Scottish 1832-1894 


George Clark Stanton was born in 1832 in Birmingham, England. He was a sculptor, silversmith, and portrait miniaturist. Stanton received his education at King Edward’s School and the Birmingham School of Art. He began his career working with Elkington & Mason before travelling to Italy to further his studies. Influenced by classical art and craftsmanship, Stanton relocated to Edinburgh in 1855. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1862 and became a full member in 1885. In addition to his artistic contributions, he also served as the curator of the Academy's Life School. His works are featured in major collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, both located in London.
