Diane Victor, known for her searing critique of contemporary society, corruption, and the legacies of apartheid and colonialism, is celebrated for her technical innovation in drawing and printmaking. A former lecturer and winner of the prestigious Volkskas Atelier Award in 1988, she has exhibited widely, with works held in major institutions such as MoMA and the Met.

Ruhan Janse van Vuuren, born in 1981 in Mpumalanga, is a sculptor known for his mastery across media, including bronze, granite, and steel. He studied Fine Art at Tshwane University of Technology and honed his skills at Dionysus Sculpture Foundry before launching his own practice. Based in Pretoria, he creates both exhibition pieces and public commissions.

The artists began collaborating in the 2010s on The Scapegoat Series, a body of work that includes sculptures such as Scapegoat (2012) and The Existence of his Daughter (2015). Their partnership merges Victor's expertise in drawing and printmaking with Janse van Vuuren's sculptural skills, resulting in unique mixed-media pieces that explore themes of guilt, societal blame, and the human condition. The series draws inspiration from the biblical concept of the scapegoat - an entity burdened with the sins of others.
