Frank Algernon Stewart

British 1877-1945

Frank Algernon Stewart, born 1877, was a British sporting and military artist. He trained under George Ward at Rochester, Fred Brown at the Slade, and Frank Calderon.

He served as a war artist for The Illustrated London News, The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, and The Graphic, and travelled to South Africa in 1899 during the Boer War, seeing action at Colenso, Spion Kop, and the relief of Ladysmith before being invalided home. In 1901 he studied at the Académie Julian in Paris.
