Elizabeth Gunter

South African 21st Century 

Elizabeth Gunter, a Stellenbosch University graduate with degrees in Fine Arts, including a Ph.D. in Visual Arts, has taught art at various institutions. Her solo exhibitions in the Western Cape and participation in group exhibitions have earned her a place in private, corporate, and public collections worldwide. Gunter's art revolves around the human/animal relationship, primarily through drawing. She seeks to uncover the similarities and differences in animal presence, emphasizing intuitive connections. Her work highlights the interplay between birth and death, muteness and articulation, and the merging of inside and outside through the symbolism of endangered species' fetuses, bridging the perceived gap between human and non-human animal awareness.
