Ulrich Hübner

German 1872-1932

Ulrich Hübner, born in Berlin on June 17, 1872, into a family of artists, was an Impressionist painter and a member of the Berlin Secession from 1899. He served on its advisory board from 1906 to 1907. His artistic training began in Karlsruhe under Robert Poetzelberger, Gustav Schönleber, and Carlos Grethe, followed by studies at the private art school in Munich run by Friedrich Fehr.

Hübner is best known for his landscapes, particularly his harbour and maritime scenes. Throughout his career, he painted in Berlin, along the Havel, and in Hamburg, Lübeck, Rostock, and Travemünde. In 1919, he returned to Berlin, where he continued to develop his Impressionist style. He was later appointed a full member of the Prussian Academy of Arts. After World War II, his house was confiscated, and his artistic estate, including his collection of contemporary art, disappeared.

Hübner also participated posthumously in the 1932 Olympic arts competition.
