Adebisi Fabunmi

Ghanaian/Nigerian 1945-

Adebisi Fabunmi is a Ghanaian artist who was one of the original members of the Oshogbo Art School. The important Nigerian modernist art movement emerged from a series of experimental workshops run in Oshogbo, Nigeria, between 1962 and 1966. Like Jacob Afolabi and Rufus Ogundele, Fabunmi was an actor in the theatre of leading Nigerian dramatist Duro Ladipo before participating in the Oshogbo workshops.

Fabunmi primarily works as a printmaker; however, he also creates wool paintings inspired by the yarn works made by the Huichol people of Mexico. Across varied media, Fabunmi makes images that explore Yoruba traditions and vibrantly map urban landscapes.

His work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington, Taag Gallery in Iowa City and Kó Art Space in Lagos.
