Katarzyna Stefanczyk

Polish 1992-

Katarzyna Stefanczyk (b. 1992, Warsaw, Poland) is an artist based in Cape Town. She completed a bachelor’s degree in industrial design and visual communication at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 2015 before relocating to Cape Town, where she has lived and worked since.

Stefanczyk’s practice investigates light, time, perception, and the quiet poetics of everyday space. Drawing on her background in design, her work explores the relationship between architecture and the ephemeral patterns created by shifting light. Through a restrained visual language, she transforms fleeting moments into meditative abstractions that invite prolonged looking.

She has presented two solo exhibitions: OKNO at THK Gallery, Cape Town (2023), and Light Experiences Zero Time at Untitled Art, Cape Town (2026). Her work has also been included in group exhibitions presented by Reservoir, Hugo Modern, Gallery-De-Move-On, AVA Gallery, THK Gallery, Girls Girls Girls Gallery, and KSSO Editions between 2021 and 2026. Internationally, she has exhibited at Enter Art Fair in Copenhagen and has participated in the Cape Town Art Fair.

Her ongoing body of work, Light Paintings, records the movement of light as it passes through architectural space. Working from direct observation, each painting documents a specific moment in time, tracing the changing geometry of light and shadow as it moves across walls, objects, and interiors. The resulting works exist as quiet records of duration, transforming transient phenomena
into enduring forms.

Stefanczyk lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.
