Ayanda Mabulu is a self-taught artist born in 1981 in the Eastern Cape. He is known for his bold and often controversial figurative paintings that comment on racial and social injustices in the country. His satirical works frequently feature depictions of humans and animals, especially political figures, such as former South African president Jacob Zuma, in various stages of undress and compromising positions.

Mabulu’s recent shows include a solo exhibition at Everard Read, Johannesburg in 2023 and a group exhibition at Kalashnikovv Gallery, Johannesburg the same year. In 2018, the artist held his first show in the USA at the DuSable Museum in Chicago, IL, entitled TROUBLEMAKER: Art is Our Only Hope.
