Marcello Fantoni

Italy 1915-2011

Marcello Fantoni (1915–2011) was a Florentine sculptor, ceramicist, and designer known for his expressive forms and experimental techniques. Trained from a young age, he opened his own ceramic studio in 1936, producing both series and unique works that combined ancient Etruscan influences with modernist aesthetics. His mid-century pieces—often cubist-inspired, hand-painted, and richly glazed—reflect a deep engagement with form, colour, and surface. A versatile artist, Fantoni worked across media and scales, contributing to public buildings and interiors. In 1970, he founded the International School of Ceramic Art in Florence. His works are held in major museum collections worldwide.
