Tayhe Munsamy

South African 1997- 

Johannesburg artist Tayhe Munsamy studied Fine Arts and History of Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, graduating with a first-class Honours degree in 2020.

Her practice has evolved to encompass the realms of speculative thinking, fiction, mythology and folklore. Munsamy explores elements of her identity as a mixed-race woman in the Coloured and Indian communities in South Africa. Storytelling that combines cultural specificity and historical archives with fictional features are evident in her work in painting, video, performance and digital media, unveiling themes of construction, displacement, transformation, and fantasy in relation to notions of the self.
