Jason Langa

South African 20th/21st century

Jason Langa is a Johannesburg-based contemporary visual artist working across oil painting and printmaking. His practice explores memory, identity, human connection, and the emotional landscapes that shape our everyday experiences. Through expressive colour, figurative imagery, and layered symbolism, Langa creates works that invite moments of reflection, tenderness, and quiet introspection. His paintings and prints often draw on personal narratives while considering broader ideas of belonging, community, and the relationship between people and their environments. Langa has exhibited in fairs including RMB Latitudes Art Fair, Investec Cape Town Art Fair as well as group exhibitions with Under The Aegis, Gallery21, Lizamore & Assoc. amongst others. He is an alumnus of Artist Proof Studio’s Professional Printmaking Programme and has participated in the RMB Talent Unlocked mentorship programme. In 2026, he completed an artist residency with SAFFCA at Lion Sands Game Reserve, where he expanded his exploration of landscape and memory. Through his evolving practice, Langa continues to develop a visual language that balances technical craftsmanship with emotional resonance.

“My practice explores the emotional landscapes that exist between memory, identity, and human connection. Working primarily in oil painting and printmaking, I create figurative works that use colour, symbolism, and atmosphere to examine how people relate to themselves, one another, and the environments they inhabit. The blue figures that recur throughout my work are not portraits of
reality, but emotional stand-ins that speak to vulnerability, reflection, and shared experience. Natural elements such as flowers, expansive skies, and luminous sunsets become symbols of remembrance, transformation, and belonging. I am interested in creating images that feel both intimate and universal, inviting viewers to pause and consider the quiet moments that shape our lives. Through an expressive yet deliberate visual language, my work seeks to celebrate tranquility, resilience, and the enduring connections between people and place.”
