Artists

Sonya Clark is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans over three decades, focusing on the African diaspora in the United States. She uses everyday materials like flags, hair, and found fabric to explore themes of race, culture, and history. Through projects like We Are Each Other, she fosters community engagement and reflection on a shared colonial past. Influenced by her Afro-Caribbean heritage, Clark has exhibited globally and received numerous accolades and residencies. She is also an academic, currently working as a Professor of Art at Amherst College, where she received her Bachelor of Art. Clark’s work is in the collections of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, among others.
