South African 21st Century 

Koooooos is a South African artist and designer, and one half of the award-winning design studio Studio Jana+Koos. His work ranges across illustration, painting, photography and sculpture, and is best described as ‘gently grotesque’, marked by an irreverent sense of humour and a playful style. Casting himself as a voyeur of human character, he explores the awkward, unresolved side of nudity, sex and self-representation, and the blurred lines of privacy in an age of the selfie and the screen. His work turns on questions of the gaze, the body and power, approached with warmth rather than judgement. He has collaborated with brands and studios including Vetsak and Cara Saven Wall Design, and in 2026 released his first artist’s book, Body of Work – Volume One.
