Thameur Mejri

Tunisian 1982-

Thameur Mejri is a Tunisian artist born in 1982 who currently lives and works in Nabeul. He completed his BA in Fine Arts at the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts in 2005. Mejri’s works are influenced by his Tunisian heritage and the country’s tumultuous socio-political landscape; the origin of the Arab Spring in the early 2010s. He includes symbols of violence and authority: dismembered limbs, skulls, weapons, gas masks, and police caps.

Mejri has participated in the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London (2020), the 13th Cairo Biennial in Egypt (2019), and the Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art in Senegal (2018). Recent exhibitions include solo shows at the Uitstalling Art Gallery in Genk, Belgium (2023) and Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon (macLYON) in France (2022). His works form part of the collections of institutions such as the Sindika Dokolo Foundation in Luanda, Angola; Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah, UAE; and the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL) in Marrakech, Morocco.
