British 1937-2022 

Tom Phillips was a British polymath whose career defied simple categorization. A painter, author, and musician, he is most renowned for his monumental lifelong project, A Humument —a "treated" Victorian novel that he transformed into a vibrant work of visual poetry. Though his fascination with typography and mass-produced materials linked him to the Pop Art movement, his reach was far broader. A distinguished Royal Academician, Phillips’ legacy spans from classical portraiture and intricate tapestries to experimental musical compositions, all rooted in his formative years at Oxford and the Camberwell School of Art
