Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary artist and designer closely linked to the street art subculture. While still pursuing his studies at the Rhode Island School of Design, he established OBEY clothing, a streetwear brand which emerged from the skateboarding scene. Fairey notably designed the iconic Barack Obama Hope poster for the 2008 US presidential elections.

Due to the iconic nature of his bold, colourful and stylistic works, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston named him one of the most influential street artists of the generation. Today, his works can be found in the permanent collections of prominent institutions such as The Smithsonian, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
