James Soullier

South African 1928-2005 

James Soullier was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1928 and moved to South Africa in 1948, following stops in England and Australia. He taught himself photography while working as a commercial artist for the retailer OK Bazaars. Soullier became the chief photographer for the Sunday Express before transitioning to the Sunday Times, where he enjoyed a distinguished three-decade career as its chief photographer. Renowned for his preference for natural light and his use of a Leica camera, Soullier's work reflected his distinctive style and technical prowess.
