Ricky Ayanda Dyaloyi was born in Gugulethu, Cape Town, in 1974. Creative from a young age, he enrolled in part-time art classes at the Community Art Project at fourteen, where he encountered life drawing, sculpting, printmaking, painting, and photography. In the 1990s, he participated in the Thupelo programme, an initiative co-founded by David Kolane in 1985 that encouraged artists to interact in a shared space to exchange ideas and explore different ways and mediums of working. Dyaloyi’s works are commentaries on the daily lives of the people in his community.

Dyaloyi has participated in numerous solo and group shows with Everard Read in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and London. His work was also exhibited at the 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London by Everard Read in 2015 and Spier Arts Trust in 2018. Dyaloyi’s art can be found in many local and international collections, such as the Iziko South African National Gallery, Leeu Art Collection, Old Mutual Art Collection, Sanlam Art Collection, Spier Art Collection, and the Van den Ende Collection in the Netherlands.
