Japhet Hlatshwayo

20th Century 

Japhet Hlatshwayo was born in Zimbabwe in 1963. He first learnt to make clay pots from his mother and at the age of twenty, he attended the Nzilikazi School of Arts and Crafts in Bulawayo, where he studied Sculpture, Fine Art and Commercial Art, and specialised in Pottery. Haltshwayo’s working career began at an art gallery. He came to South Africa and worked for various organisations as a potter, including as part-owner of Indalo Pottery Studio. He currently works as a thrower for Ardmore Ceramics.
