Flavio Poli

Italy 1929-1984 


Flavio Poli (1900–1984) was an influential Italian glass designer, celebrated for his innovative use of color and layered “sommerso” (submerged) glass techniques. Trained at the Istituto d'Arte di Venezia, he began his career in ceramics before moving into glass design in 1929. As artistic director and later partner at Seguso Vetri d’Arte, he helped shape modern Murano glass design. A recipient of the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1954, Poli’s work is held in major international collections, including the Murano Glass Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, MoMA, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
