Daniel Naudé was born in Cape Town in 1984, where he continues to live and work. He graduated with a BA Honours in Visual Arts from Stellenbosch University in 2007. As a photographer, Naudé is best known for his portraits of animals, particularly dogs and cattle, photographed within the landscapes they inhabit in South Africa, India, Uganda and Madagascar. His first book, Animal Farm, was published by Prestel in 2012, followed by Sightings of the Sacred (Prestel, 2016), Cattle of the Ages (Jacana, 2017), produced with Cyril Ramaphosa, and The Bovine Prophecy (2020). He has held solo exhibitions at Stevenson in Cape Town and Johannesburg, The Photographers’ Gallery in London (2020) and Everard Read, and was included in In Focus: Animalia at the J. Paul Getty Museum (2015) and the 13th Lyon Biennale (2015). His work is held in the collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Huis Marseille in Amsterdam, and the Paul Allen Collection.
