Jean Ransy

Belguim 1910-1991

Jean Ransy was a Belgian artist whose early experiences during World War I deeply influenced his work. Born in Baulers, he witnessed the bombing of Namur as a child and experienced the harsh realities of war, which shaped his artistic perspective.

After moving to Marchienne-au-Pont, Ransy studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he was influenced by Constant Montald. He also attended Gosselies Industrial School, focusing on decoration and monumental painting. Ransy developed a rigorous working method and forged lasting friendships with fellow artists, including sculptor Alphonse Darville, which enriched his artistic journey throughout the years.
