Gerald Leslie Brockhurst

British 1890-1978

Gerald Leslie Brockhurst was a British painter and etcher, celebrated in the 1930s and 1940s for his portraits of high-society figures, including Marlene Dietrich and the Duchess of Windsor. He is now best known for his etchings of idealised women, often featuring his wives as models. Brockhurst’s early study of Renaissance artists like Piero della Francesca and Leonardo da Vinci greatly influenced his style. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools, winning awards that allowed him to travel and refine his artistic approach.
