Mncedi Madolo

South Africa 1988- 

Mncedi Madolo (1988) completed his national diploma in Fine Arts at Walter Sisulu University in 2014 where he majored in painting. Madolo completed a business skills diploma with SEDA in 2015 while doing graphic design, brand identity and commissioned work for friends and family. In 2017 Madolo moved to Johannesburg to embark on a career as a full-time artist.

Living in the city brought me closer to the realities of urban life. I found himself surrounded by people like me, making a living within the constraints of a lower middle-class existence. Many of the materials and images used in the paintings are collected from the street and present themselves as a complex layering of our stories. A black experience of urban South Africa”.
