Richard Penn

South African 1976- 

South African artist Richard Penn, born in 1976, is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and animation. Now based in Auckland, New Zealand, he holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Inspired by science and perception, his work explores the intersections of materiality and abstraction. Penn has exhibited internationally, representing South Africa at the Rybon International Artists’ Workshop in Tehran in 2012 and receiving the Ampersand Fellowship in New York in 2014. His works are held in private, corporate, and academic collections in South Africa, New Zealand, and elsewhere.
