Philippa Hobbs

South African 1955- 


Philippa Hobbs was born in 1955 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She studied Fine Art at the Johannesburg College of Art, completed a postgraduate printmaking course at the Philadelphia College of Art in the United States, and furthered her education at UNISA and Technikon Witwatersrand. Hobbs is known for her work in printmaking, particularly woodcuts, as well as drawing and mixed-media works. Her art often explores human rights, social justice, and South African cultural identity. She has received several awards for her contributions to art and education. Hobbs served as Senior Lecturer and Head of Printmaking at Technikon Witwatersrand (now University of Johannesburg) and is curator of the MTN Art Collection, with exhibitions nationally and internationally.
