Karin Preller

South African 1962- 

Karin Preller studied Fine Arts at the University of South Africa (Unisa), where she received the Faculty Medal for best student in her final year. She completed an MA in Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently completing her PhD in Art and Design at the University of Johannesburg. Preller’s paintings are characterised by their reflection of the haunting and strange at the heart of the banal, in still lives and snapshots. She was the recipient of the 2022 Kanna Award and was nominated for a KykNET Fiësta in 2023. Her works are included in the collections of the Johannesburg Art Gallery, Unisa, ABSA, SASOL, The Public Protector, The Pretoria Art Museum, and Oliewenhuis Art Museum.
