Ed Young

South African 1978- 

South African conceptual artist Ed Young was born in Welkom in 1978 and is now based in Cape Town. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (2001) and Master of Fine Arts (2005) from the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Fine Art. Young has a provocative and multidisciplinary approach to his work, which ranges from text-based painting and video to performance and sculpture, often incorporating hyperreal silicone sculptures. His art, known for its wit and subversion, challenges conventional norms and is sometimes controversial. Young has exhibited globally, including at the Armory Show in New York City and Kunsthaus Baselland in Basel.
