Caryn Scrimgeour, born in 1970 in Johannesburg, is a still-life artist known for her intricate oil paintings that often evoke a sense of nostalgia. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Stellenbosch University in 1991 and lives and works in Cape Town. Scrimgeour’s work draws inspiration from the 17^th Century Dutch still-life tradition, using familiar objects like chinaware, glassware, and utensils, set against richly patterned fabrics. These objects symbolise personal experiences and universal themes, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own memories. Scrimgeour has exhibited extensively in South Africa and internationally, notably with Everard Read, and her work is represented in various private and public collections worldwide.
