André Rose

South African 1975- 

Andre Rosé was born and raised in Kimberly, Northern Cape and currently lives in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. By profession, Rosé is a public health physician and researcher, while also a self-taught transdisciplinary visual artist. Rosé refined his practice with formal training in digital photography and darkroom techniques at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design in Washington, D.C. in 2020.

Rosé's work is influenced by South African documentary traditions and artists such as Cedric Nunn, David Goldblatt and Janine Allen.
Working in analogue photography, the artist uses the medium to explore intersections of social justice, urban spaces and our relationship with the natural environment. Rosé's practice is further deeply rooted in a concern for inequality and marginalization.
