Amos Letsoalo

South African 1969-

Amos Letsoalo was born in 1969 in Molepo Village in the Limpopo Province. He is the curator of the Polokwane Museum in Limpopo, a conservationist, and has presided as a national judge for the Absa Atelier Award. He interprets the indigenous culture of northern Sotho in Limpopo focussing on daily existence within the villages and its human activity. Charcoal, collage, and pencil crayon are combined to create textural substance, with colour pinpointing unexpected, highlighted detail and collage increasing the richness of the imagery. Unpretentious and quiet, the modesty of the subject matter is visually both compelling and satisfying. Letsoalo’s work resides in the Iziko South African National Gallery and other notable collections.
