Amadou Bâ

Senegalese 1945-

Amadou Bâ is a Senegalese artist who was born in 1944 in Agmiam Thiodaye, a town located in the northern part of Senegal's Matam region. Bâ pursued his education at the School of Fine Arts of Senegal under its founder, a Frenchman and amateur painter named Pierre Lods. Lods also established the Poto-Poto School of Painting. Bâ's work is rooted in his Fulani culture, which is an ethnic group, and the Sahelian landscape, a geographic region that spans ten countries, including Senegal. His work is reminiscent of ancient rock art and incorporates earth-toned colours in his stylized depiction of nomadic life, showcasing cattle herders, animals, figures in boats on the Senegal River, and other daily activities.
