Adri Stander

South African 1958- 

Adri Stander was born in Zastron, Free State in 1958. Before pursuing art, she studied a BA(HED) in Mathematics and further obtained an MBA from the University of the Free State. She attended lessons at George Boys, Lillian Gray and other art studios over a period of time.

Stander has been influenced by artists such as Pieter van der Westhuizen, Axel Vervoort, Carola Katsman, Kippie Leonard and Larissa Eremeeva. She finds inspiration in architecture, interior styles and random faces.

The artist works in a variety of media including charcoal, acrylic and raw canvas, creating muddy textures and abstract forms. Her work also features elements of pixelated images where there is an absence of colour and in muted tones.

Stander's work is currently on show as part of AbStract - Sychrony Revealed at the Jan Rupert Art Centre in Graaff Reinet.
