Thandiwe Msebenzi

South African 1991- 

South African photographer Thandiwe Msenenzi was born in 1991 in Nyanga, Cape Town. She graduated from the University of Cape Town’s Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2014, where she received the Tierney Photography Fellowship Award. Msebenzi became a member of the iQhiya collective in 2015 and has since exhibited widely, including at the AVA Gallery and the FNB Joburg Art Fair. Her work explores themes of silence and gender performance, particularly how patriarchal systems are normalised in South Africa. Msebenzi has also completed a residency at the Cape Town School of Photography and has been a speaker at the Design Indaba.
