South African 1994- 

Photographer Mpumelelo Buthelezi was born in Johannesburg in 1994. He graduated from the Market Photo Workshop in 2017, earning certificates in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography. His work often explores themes of social activism, religion, and the lived experiences of marginalized people. Buthelezi’s work has been exhibited internationally and he has received several accolades, including the Cassirer Welz Award in 2021, the Heather B Mattera photography scholarship to study in New York City in 2022, and multiple residencies.
