Kathryn White

South African 1980- 

Kathryn White was born in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Both a new artist and published author, White studied at Rhodes intending to become a photojournalist, however she first pursued a career in writing.
She has returned to photography, working with older cameras allowing the physical reality and limitations to influence the outcome of her work. Her practice is idea-driven; and is influenced by her career, as well as her history degree and academic studies in museums, archives and narrative reconstruction. She's also informed by aesthetics: her pieces aim to bring something profound, beautiful or enlightening to the space it occupies.
