German 1842-1921 

Karl Paul Themistocles von Eckenbrecher, born in Athens in 1842, was a marine and landscape painter who worked in the late Romantic style. He studied under court painter Carl Gustav Wegener and Oswald Achenbach. He later went on to become a member of the progressive artist's group Malkasten. In addition to his paintings, Eckenbrecher designed postcards for various passenger ship companies. A major retrospective exhibition of the artist's work was held in 1942, following his death in 1921.
