Bronwyn Katz

South African 1993-

Bronwyn Katz, born in 1993 in Kimberley, is a conceptual artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, installation, video, and performance. Working with found natural materials like iron ore and man-made objects such as mattress springs, Katz creates works that explore the themes of memory and trauma. Their abstract sculptures, often minimalistic yet evocative, confront social constructions and boundaries while engaging with the emotional and historical context of the materials. Katz’s work challenges cultural erasure, especially through the endangered languages of Southern Africa. They are a founding member of the artist collective iQhiya and have exhibited internationally, including the 2022 Venice Biennale and the 2020 Sydney Biennale. Katz was also selected for the 2022 Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, paired with Ghanaian artist El Anatsui.
