Kyra Pape

South Africa 1993- 

My blue series is a body of work exploring the grace, delicacy and depth of grief. Trauma is both a struggle and privilege. Falling into the depths of your emotions, involuntarily, is a broken boundary which asks you to truly contemplate the complexity of permanence, stability and certainty. To meet with disaster… Life is complicated, and our bodies and relationships with the world are unstable. As we cling onto what we know and expect, the fall and unprecedented drop is unnerving and yet freeing.

Kyra Simoné Papé a young South African artist, born in 1993, and raised in Johannesburg focuses her practice on drawing, sculpture and printmaking. She is an abstract artist with a particular interest in materiality. She has her Master of Arts in Fine Arts by Research (2018) as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Fine arts Degree from the University of Witwatersrand (2015).
