Huibrecht de Hart

South African 2001- 

Huibrecht de Hart was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa in 2001 and grew up in Pretoria. In 2023, de Hart graduated from The University of Pretoria with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts (Hons) with distinction.

During her time studying, the artist delved into painting as a medium and under the guidance of supervisor, Dr. Nicola Grobler, and showed interest in post-humanist studies, specifically human-animal relations and the breaching of species' borders to navigate the Age of the Anthropocene. Through her sculptural, impasto technique, expressive brushstrokes and often ambiguous subject matter, the artist strives to reconfigure the categorisation of organic life on earth. Additional theorists that inspire de Hart's practice include Steve Baker, Donna Haraway, and Cary Wolfe.
