The Dalmore was established in 1839 on the shores of the Cromarty Firth in the Northern Highlands, its name drawn from the Gaelic for "big meadowland", a reference to the broad fertile ground between Inverness and Tain that has provided the distillery with clean water from the River Alness since its founding. The distillery is distinguished by its striking flat-topped stills, unique in the Scotch whisky industry, which produce a spirit of characteristic weight, sweetness and richness that responds with particular generosity to extended maturation in complex combinations of casks.
