Finca La Emperatriz

Spain - Rioja

Finca La Emperatriz is a historic estate located in the Alta Rioja sub-region of Rioja, founded in the late 19th century by the Enriquez de Navarra family. The name “La Emperatriz” (“The Empress”) was inspired by Empress Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III, reflecting the estate’s noble heritage and long-standing reputation for quality.

The modern era of the estate began when the Hernáiz family acquired the property in the late 1990s, undertaking a meticulous restoration of the vineyards and winemaking philosophy. Today, Finca La Emperatriz is widely recognised for its single-vineyard approach, focusing on estate-grown fruit from old bush vines planted at altitude in one of Rioja Alta’s coolest and most expressive sites.

The estate produces wines that emphasise elegance, freshness, and precision, with a strong sense of terroir. Flagship wines such as Finca La Emperatriz Crianza and the estate’s limited-production single vineyard bottlings are known for their balance of ripe fruit, fine structure, and ageing potential. Finca La Emperatriz has become one of the modern benchmarks for high-altitude, terroir-driven Rioja.
