Cave de Tain

France - Rhône 

Cave de Tain - l'Hermitage is a leading French cooperative winery located at the foot of the famed Hermitage slope in the northern Rhône. It is particularly known for its wines made from the Syrah grape, which is the only red variety it produces. Cave de Tain is the largest producer of AOC wine in the northern Rhône.

The company was formed in 1933 by several dozen individual growers. Today, this has expanded to 300 members, who collectively farm over 1000 hectares (2500 acres) of vineyards. Cave de Tain's influence in Hermitage is based on the personal domaine of Louis Gambert de Loche, the first president of the co-operative. Since 1994, a prestige cuvée from selected plots within the vineyard has carried the Gambert de Loche name.
