Weingut Huber (aka Bernhard Huber) is a leading wine estate in the Emmendingen district of the Baden wine region in the southwest corner of Germany. It is particularly known for world class red wines from Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). In addition, white wines are made from Chardonnay and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc). Bernhard Huber was often desribed as the German Godfather of Pinot Noir. A great friend of Jacques Seysses at Domaine Dujac, though he set out to express Malterdinger terroir, his wines were often mistaken for fine Burgundy. This was something he put down to the cool, often wet weather in Malterdingen and the limestone soil similar to the Côte d'Or. Cistercian monks, who planted the great Burgundian sites, also brought Pinot Noir to the area around 700 years ago. Bernhard passed away in 2014, leaving his son Julian Huber (a year out of his studies at the Geisenheim Institute) to take up the reins with the same winemaking team.
