Carmes de Rieussec

Les Carmes de Rieussec is the second wine of Château Rieussec, one of the leading sweet-wine producers in Sauternes, within Bordeaux. Les Carmes de Rieussec was created to offer a more approachable and earlier-drinking Sauternes compared to the grand vin of Château Rieussec. The estate itself is owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, the same group behind Château Lafite Rothschild. The name “Carmes” refers to the Carmelite monks who historically owned and cultivated the estate vineyards before the French Revolution. The wine is produced from the same vineyards as the grand vin but from younger vines or parcels not selected for Château Rieussec.
