Princess Nomvuyo Khensani Ndala is a South African artist, historian and jewellery practitioner whose work explores the relationship between material culture, spirituality, identity and African systems of meaning. Her practice is deeply research-driven, drawing from African history, philosophy, symbolism and contemporary visual culture to investigate how cultural meanings are preserved, transformed and reimagined through objects.

Ndala is particularly interested in jewellery as more than adornment. She approaches jewellery, talismans and amulets as cultural texts; objects through which beliefs, histories, identities and spiritual ideas can be communicated and negotiated. Her research interests include African amulets and talismans, Ndebele cultural motifs, semiotics, syncretism and the ways traditional symbols are reinterpreted within contemporary art and design.

Rather than positioning her practice primarily through a catalogue of exhibitions or conventional artistic achievements, Ndala occupies a more theoretical and research-oriented space. Her creative process is rooted in questioning, investigating and understanding the cultural significance of objects before translating these ideas into material form. Her emerging practice reflects an ongoing dialogue between African heritage and contemporary expression, seeking to create objects that are aesthetically compelling while remaining connected to histories, memories and systems of knowledge. Through this approach, Ndala explores how contemporary jewellery can become a space for cultural reflection, storytelling and the continued negotiation of African identity.
