Jones & Crompton

Birmingham 

The partnership between Edward Samuel Jones and Hubert Crompton began in 1899, when Crompton joined Jones’s established business. Working initially from Spencer Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter before later moving to Harford Street, the firm quickly became known for its varied output and reliable workmanship.

Their mark was registered in February 1899, with further evidence suggesting a Chester registration around 1900. Jones & Crompton produced an extensive range of small silver goods including brushes, card cases, candlesticks, napkin rings, vesta cases, vanity items and other accessories. They also made functional table pieces such as salts, pepperettes, cruets, mugs, sauce boats, dishes and goblets, along with larger items like tea services, trophy cups and vases.

Although typical of Birmingham’s late Victorian and Edwardian silversmithing trade, pieces by Jones & Crompton are often well finished and remain appealing for collectors of practical and decorative silver.
